The Golden State Warriors have recently filled two openings on their coaching staff. Veteran coach Terry Stotts and former NBA All-Star player Jerry Stackhouse have joined the team to bring a wealth of experience to the front bench.
Stotts, 66, has 13 years of head coaching experience under his belt, most recently with the Portland Trail Blazers. He will take on the role of top assistant vacated by Kenny Atkinson. Stotts had a discord with head coach Adrian Griffin while working as an assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, which led to his resignation before the season began. However, he is expected to bring a positive influence to the Warriors coaching staff.
Stackhouse, 49, is a two-time All-Star who turned to coaching after retiring in 2013. He will be filling the spot left open by the passing of assistant Dejan Milojević in February. Stackhouse spent three seasons coaching with the Raptors and two as head coach of their G League team. He also worked as an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies before becoming head coach at Vanderbilt for five seasons. With his previous experience as both a player and coach, Stackhouse is expected to be an asset to the Warriors’ offense next season.
Kris Weems will remain on the front bench and fill the third assistant spot. This move will bring Bruce Fraser back to the second bench after three seasons on the front bench. Fraser is known for his close relationship with Stephen Curry and is expected to continue that relationship this season alongside Stotts and Stackhouse on the front bench.
Overall, these additions are meant to strengthen the Warriors coaching staff for next season by bringing in experienced coaches with different areas of expertise and skill sets.
