New Science Building Reaches Final Beam: Celebrating a Milestone in Butte College’s Growth

In Butte Valley, the final beam of Butte College’s new 72,276-square-foot science building was placed. The campus community gathered at the construction site at 11 a.m. on Wednesday to sign the final beam and mark this important milestone in the construction process. The new building will include a planetarium, sustainable facilities, upgraded classrooms, and collaborative study spaces.

The new science building is an exciting development for Butte College and will significantly enhance the educational experience for students in the STEM and healthcare fields. This state-of-the-art facility will provide students with cutting-edge resources and technology to further their education and research in a wide range of fields. Construction of the building began in April 2023, with an expected opening in fall 2025.

Funded by Measure J, a $190 million bond measure that was approved by voters in November 2016, as well as the state’s Physical Plant and Instructional Support Block Grant, this project will serve as a hub for collaboration and innovation. With its modern amenities and advanced technology, the new science building is poised to become a cornerstone of academic excellence at Butte College for years to come.
