Sports bettors show lack of support for Yankees and Mets as 2024 MLB season approaches

Despite their impressive preseason win totals, the New York baseball teams are not optimistic about their chances in the 2024 season. According to data from BetMGM Sportsbook, the Yankees and Mets are among the most bet teams to miss the playoffs. While the defending champion Rangers have more bets placed on them to fall short of the postseason, both the Yankees and Mets have seen their preseason win totals decrease since opening.

The Yankees’ win total dropped from 93.5 to 91.5 due to several injuries affecting the team. On the other hand, the Orioles have seen a significant increase in wins, going from 87.5 to 90.5. Despite this, oddsmakers still consider both teams strong contenders for the postseason, with only one team having better odds than them – Houston Astros in American League East race at +180 with Yankees being second least bet team to win division.

In terms of postseason odds, only two teams – Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays – have better odds than New York teams in AL East race at +200 each. The Mets have a win total of 81.5 after a disappointing 75-win season in 2023 and Vegas bookies have them as long shots to make playoffs or win NL East division title despite having strong odds of winning division title but low number of bets placed on them compared to other teams like Dodgers (-350) and Braves (-360).
