Giana Pedevillano, a Meriden native and Southern Connecticut State University graduate, has joined Newtown’s team of defense against foodborne illnesses. Initially, she started her career in health promotion at SCSU but soon developed an interest in environmental and public health. She aimed to create a clean, healthy, and happy environment for everyone.
Pedevillano now holds a master’s degree in public health and is involved in redirecting personal care businesses like salons and spas to be inspected through the Health District starting September 1. She is also working towards obtaining her FDA credentials for food service as well as certifications for soil and septic inspections.
Looking back on her journey, Pedevillano admitted that she was not aware of the various professions within public health until she began exploring different majors. However, she found satisfaction in the idea of helping an entire community rather than working on an individual level. Currently, she is shadowing her mentors at the Health District and expresses gratitude for their guidance in honing her skills as a young professional.
As Pedevillano transitions into her role as a health inspector in Newtown, she is excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community. She believes that her training and experiences have prepared her to contribute effectively to the promotion of public health. Through her dedication and commitment, Pedevillano hopes to enhance the overall well-being of Newtown residents.
In summary, Giana Pedevillano is excited about joining Newtown’s team of defense against foodborne illnesses after completing a master’s degree in public health from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). Her career began with an interest in environmental and public health before expanding into broader aspects of health promotion at SCSU. She aims to create a clean, healthy, and happy environment for everyone while working towards obtaining FDA credentials for food service and certifications for soil and septic inspections.
