In September, the Institute for Nursing Excellence at RWJBarnabas Health hosted a Peri-Anesthesia Conference at its Eisenhower facility in Livingston, New Jersey. The conference brought together 44 nurse attendees from various locations across the system, including Community Medical Center in Toms River and Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City.
The goal of the conference was to provide PACU and Same Day Surgery nurses with hands-on learning experiences and an opportunity to network with colleagues from other sites. The event was organized and presented by Swapnil Shah, Jessica Stanford, and Mary Koch from the Center for Professional Development, Innovation, and Research (CPDIR).
The agenda for the conference included lectures on Phase I and II Management, Anesthesia Medications for Adult and Pediatric populations, Fluid and Blood management, as well as a special interactive session on Care of the Caregiver provided by Tom Moore from RWJBarnabas Health’s Employee Assistance Program. In addition to these sessions, attendees participated in hands-on stations for mini-code, debriefing, ventilator management, A-Lines, and Airway management led by interprofessional colleagues from across the system.
Special thanks were given to presenters Michael McLoughlin, Monica Bianco, Sarika Patel, Thomas Moore, Aileen Danguilan Richelle Powell for their contributions to the success of the conference. The Institute for Nursing Excellence plans to host another similar conference in the Fall of this year. More information can be found at rwjbh.org/thenursinginstitute
