Oracle to relocate global headquarters to Nashville, focusing on healthcare sector

Larry Ellison, co-founder and chairman of Oracle, announced during the Oracle OpenWorld 2017 conference in San Francisco on October 3, 2017 that the company plans to move its world headquarters to Nashville, Tennessee. This decision was made to bring the company closer to a major health-care epicenter. The move will eventually see a “huge campus” transferred to Nashville.

Ellison shared that Nashville is a thriving health center and an exciting prospect for Oracle employees. He highlighted that Nashville is the hub of the health-care industry, which is of significant interest to Oracle. Despite being relatively new to health care, Oracle considers it a moral obligation to help address challenges within the industry.

In 2020, Oracle moved its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin, Texas and has been focusing on expanding its presence in the health-care sector. The company has been developing a $1.2 billion campus in Nashville for about three years and Ellison expressed confidence in Nashville being the center of Oracle’s future. While shares of the company remained mostly flat in extended trading after the announcement, CNBC reached out to Oracle for further comment but did not immediately receive a response.
