Paluck recognized with award by American Academy of Political and Social Science

Elizabeth Levy Paluck, a professor at Princeton University, has been awarded one of eight fellowships by the American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS) this year. She is recognized for her research on prejudice and conflict reduction as well as the development of social norms in various environments.

Paluck, who previously received a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, holds the title of Eugene Higgins Professor of Psychology and Public Affairs at Princeton and serves as the deputy director of the Kahneman-Treisman Center for Behavioral Science & Public Policy. Her work focuses on ethnic conflict, political conflict, violence against women, and conflict among young people in schools through large-scale field experiments that test theoretically driven interventions targeting social norms and behavior. This research has contributed to identifying more effective ways to reduce prejudice, violence, and conflict in society.

Marta Tienda, president of AAPSS and a professor at Princeton, welcomed the new fellows with enthusiasm. She believes that at a critical moment in American democracy, social science thought leaders like Paluck’s insights are crucial for reimagining American world leadership and ensuring economic opportunities for future generations.

Paluck joined the Princeton faculty in 2009 after completing a fellowship at Harvard Academy for International Affairs and earning her Ph.D., B.S., in psychology from Yale University. Throughout her career, she has received numerous other awards such as two Robert B. Cialdini Awards for field research, an Early Career Award from American Psychological Association’s Society for Study Peace Conflict Violence, an honorary degree from Claremont Graduate University and Graduate Mentoring Award from McGraw Center for Teaching Learning at Princeton.
