In London, Sotheby’s witnessed a surprise when the Macallan 1926 bottle was sold for over £2.1 million. This aged whisky has become one of the most sought-after in the world, with only 40 bottles available, each aged for 60 years. The exclusivity of this bottle adds to its high value.
Jonny Fowle, head of whisky at Sotheby’s, described the bottle as incredibly rich with lots of dried fruit, spice, and wood. Two artists, Valerio Adami and Sir Peter Blake, designed the labels for the 12 Macallan 1926 bottles that were available. The other 12 bottles remain unlabelled. The bottle underwent reconditioning at The Macallan’s Distillery in Scotland before being put up for auction.
