Record-Breaking Swimmer and Academic Achiever: Towson’s Brian Benzing on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Second Team

Towson senior men’s swimmer Brian Benzing has been recognized for his outstanding performance in the classroom and the pool. On Wednesday, Benzing was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America second team, with a 3.76 GPA and majoring in sports marketing.

Throughout his swimming career at Towson, Benzing has been a standout performer. He was named the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Year for the fourth consecutive season and received All-America honors at the NCAA Championship after finishing second in the 100 breast with a record-setting time of 50.59. In the 200 breast, he was an honorable mention All-American, setting a CAA record with a time of 1:52.71 in the prelims. Additionally, Benzing placed 23rd in the 200 IM at the NCAA’s, setting another CAA record with a time of 1:42.82.

At the CAA Championship, Benzing was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet for the third time and won four gold medals – including gold in both individual races and as part of Towson’s 800 free relay team that set a meet record in the 200 free – earning him six medals overall and solidifying his status as a top competitor in collegiate swimming.
