Science and Engineering Doctoral Recipients Choose to Stay in the United States, with Industries like Physical Sciences and Computer Science Leading the Way

In 2022, the majority of science and engineering doctoral recipients with post-graduate commitments chose to remain in the United States, according to data from the U.S. National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES). Over 90% of these individuals opted to stay in the country, with more than 60% taking jobs in industry or business sectors.

The industries that attracted the highest number of post-grad doctoral recipients include physical sciences, engineering, computer and information sciences, and biological and biomedical sciences. This trend highlights the importance of these sectors in providing career opportunities for individuals with advanced degrees in these fields.

The data from NCSES provides valuable insights into the career choices made by science and engineering doctoral recipients and the industries that they are most likely to enter. It is clear that a significant portion of these individuals are choosing to stay and work in the U.S., which is good news for both academia and industry.
