Glenwood South restaurant closes doors after two decades of operation

Raleigh, NC- Armadillo Grill, a well-known restaurant in Raleigh, has closed its Glenwood Avenue location after 22 years of business. The owners made the announcement on social media, stating that changes in the restaurant industry and rising costs of doing business led them to believe that the location no longer served their customer base. However, they assured customers that they would continue to offer catering services in Raleigh.

Despite the closure of the Glenwood Avenue location, Armadillo Grill’s flagship location in Carrboro will remain open. This closure joins a growing list of longtime downtown Raleigh businesses that have recently announced closures. Capital Club 16 announced it would be closing its brick-and-mortar location on West Martin Street at the end of April. The owners plan to focus on onsite catering, pop-up events, and their food truck, The Wandering Wolf.

Clouds Brewing also announced it would be closing its downtown Raleigh taproom on North West Street. However, its other taproom location on Front Street will remain open. These closures highlight the challenges that businesses face in the ever-evolving restaurant industry.
