On the evening of Shawarma Land’s grand opening, a thief broke into the small west Houston business and made off with over $1,000 in cash. The Houston Police Department reported on the incident, which left owners Mohammad Assaad and his team feeling disappointed but resilient.

According to Assaad, the thief quickly snatched the cash register from its place upon entering and fled through the back door of the restaurant. In their haste, the thief left behind a trail of broken glass that will need to be cleaned up before Shawarma Land can reopen for business.

Despite the setback, Assaad remains optimistic about the future of his restaurant. He chose to open Shawarma Land in a bustling area due to its diverse customer base. The restaurant was a long-held dream for Assaad, who spent months perfecting recipes and renovating the space.
