Shohei Ohtani Smacks First Dodgers Home Run After Early Struggles

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ star player, Shohei Ohtani, hit his first home run of the season against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium. The ball traveled 430 feet and exited the bat at an impressive 105.6 mph, leaving fans in awe of Ohtani’s power and skill. As is often the case with Ohtani’s home runs, the contact sounded different and fans were excited for his next big hit.

After catching Ohtani’s homer, a lucky fan was escorted from the stands after exchanging the ball for two caps, a bat, and a meeting with the player. This rare left-handed home run off reliever Taylor Rogers, a sidearm left-hander, is only the eighth he has allowed in his long MLB career and the first since 2021. The homer helped put the Dodgers in a commanding lead over their rival Giants, but San Francisco’s Jorge Soler hit a solo shot in the next inning to tie things up.

The score remained tied until Dinelson Lamet came on to pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning. He secured his first career save with a 1-2-3 performance under pressure to hold onto victory for his team. Despite struggling early on this season, Ohtani’s home run was much needed relief for him as he carries immense expectations on his shoulders after signing a massive contract with the Dodgers last year. He expressed excitement about hitting his first homer and being one step closer to making history as he continues to impress with both sides of his game.

Ohtani now sits just six homers behind Dave Roberts for most home runs by a Japanese-born player in Dodgers history. With each passing game, he is getting closer to that milestone and cementing himself as one of baseball’s top players today.
