Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Defies Odds to Set New World Record in 400m Hurdles at US Trials

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the reigning Olympic champion, shattered her own world record in the 400m hurdles by 0.03 seconds at the US Trials in Eugene on Sunday. The race was one of the fastest in history, with four women clocking times under 53 seconds. However, McLaughlin-Levrone still managed to dominate by finishing in a blistering time of 50.65.

From the start, McLaughlin-Levrone took command and never looked back. She surged ahead of her competitors, including Anna Cockrell who finished second in a personal best time of 52.64 and Jasmine Jones who finished third in a personal best time of 52.77. Despite facing stiff competition from her fellow athletes, McLaughlin-Levrone’s strong performance allowed her to cross the finish line with a commanding lead.

This wasn’t just any ordinary race for McLaughlin-Levrone – it was another opportunity for her to break records at the US Trials. In fact, this is not the first time she has set a new world record at this event. In 2021, she set a world record of 51.90 in the 400m hurdles before lowering it to an even more impressive mark of 51.46 to win Olympic gold in Tokyo later that year. She continued her streak of breaking records in 2022 when she set another new world record of 51.41 at the US Championships before winning another gold medal with a time of 50.68 at the World Championships held in Oregon last July.

Hayward Field in Eugene has been fortunate enough to host many incredible moments for McLaughlin-Levrone over the years – all five of her world records have been achieved here! With each passing day, we can expect more great things from this exceptional athlete as she continues to push herself beyond limits and dominate the world stage.

Stay tuned for more updates on Sydney McLaughlin- Levrone’s latest record breaking achievements!
