On Saturday, a 25-year-old Muslim convert named Milos Zujovic, also known as ‘Saladin’, was shot and killed by the Serbian Police in front of the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade. The attacker had seriously injured an agent before being neutralized. The police spokesman praised the officer for eliminating the attacker and preventing further casualties.
Suspicions have arisen that Zujovic may have been linked to the ultra-conservative Wahhabi movement, although investigations are ongoing. Several people have been detained as a precaution, and security has been heightened in Belgrade.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the incident as a terrorist attack but stated that no embassy staff were harmed. The injured police officer underwent surgery after being struck by an arrow in the neck, which he reportedly removed himself. The surgeon who treated him confirmed that he is stable and has been transferred to intensive care for further treatment.
The city prosecutor will provide more information about the attacker after the autopsy. The incident highlights the ongoing importance of security measures in response to potential threats.
