Report: NFL cancels supplemental draft for 2024 season

The NFL has decided not to hold the supplemental draft for the fourth consecutive year, as reported by Sports Illustrated. This decision comes after a review of recent trends and an assessment of the available pool of eligible players.

The supplemental draft is designed to provide an opportunity for players in unique situations to join an NFL team rather than wait until the next regular draft. Typically, these players have experienced a change in eligibility after the NFL Draft has taken place. To be eligible for the supplemental draft, players must be at least three years removed from high school and can apply through the league office.

If the supplemental draft were held, it would consist of seven rounds. Teams would be divided into three groups based on their performance in the previous season. Group one would include teams with six or fewer wins and no playoff appearance, while group two would consist of teams with six or more wins but missed the playoffs. During the supplemental draft, teams would submit bids for players, and the team highest in the draft order that submitted a bid for a player in the earliest round would have the opportunity to select that player.
