The New York Yankees have started the season with a strong record of 12-5, showing promising signs for the team’s success. Manager Aaron Boone has confirmed that infielder DJ LeMahieu will be going to Somerset for his rehab work. It remains to be seen if he will need more than five games to recover from a bone bruise sustained from a foul ball during spring training.
LeMahieu, who is 35 years old, was placed on the injured list just before Opening Day. His absence has given Oswaldo Cabrera more playing time at third base, where he has performed well with a .292/.346/.521 slash line, three home runs, and 12 RBI.
Boone also provided an update on ace pitcher Gerrit Cole, who has been making progress in his recovery from right elbow inflammation. Cole recently threw from 75 feet as part of his rehab. He was placed on the 60-day IL and is not eligible to return until at least May 27, though he is aiming to be back on the mound by June 1.
