The University of Alabama lost a four-star athlete from their 2025 recruiting class, Zymear Smith, who announced his decommitment on social media. Smith expressed gratitude towards the Alabama football staff for their support throughout the recruiting process. After discussing with his family and mentors, Smith made the decision to part ways with the Crimson Tide.
Smith received an offer from Alabama in February and committed to the program in March. During a recent visit to the campus over the weekend of May 31 through June 2, he reaffirmed his commitment. However, after visiting other schools such as Penn State and Maryland during the weekends of June 21 through June 23 and June 7 through June 9 respectively, Smith decided to decommit from Alabama.
Hailing from North Caroline High School in Ridgely, Maryland, Smith is ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the state and the No. 10 athlete in the 2025 class. With Smith’s decommitment, Alabama’s recruiting class for 2025 now stands at 21 pledges, placing them second in the national recruiting team rankings.
