North Middlesex Regional High School student Samantha Difonte, a rising senior from Townsend, has been named Gymnast of the Year at the recent Central Mass High School Sports Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was held at the Hanover Theater & Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Worcester on June 26.
Samantha is a participant in the co-operative gymnastics program with Groton-Dunstable Regional High School and has earned numerous accolades, including holding the program’s vault record of 9.6 and the highest all-around score of 37.65. Her outstanding performance in gymnastics is just one aspect of her impressive athletic career; she is also a high-achieving member of the North Middlesex Regional High School Track Team.
Superintendent Brad Morgan of Townsend expressed his delight at Samantha’s achievement and commended her for being an exceptional student-athlete. He emphasized the hard work and dedication it takes to excel in athletics and expressed hope that Samantha would take pride in her accomplishments for years to come. The Central Mass High School Sports Awards is a recognition program that honors top-performing athletes, coaches, and teams in the Central Massachusetts area. The award ceremony takes place after a nine-month selection process that includes announcing nominees each season. This year’s ceremony was organized by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and the USA Today Network.
