U-M Health System to Acquire Land for Multi-Specialty Facility in Troy, Expanding Their Reach and Expertise

In a major development, the University of Michigan Health System announced plans to acquire vacant land at the former Kmart headquarters in Troy for the construction of a multi-specialty facility. The $4.42 million property, located at 3100 West Big Beaver Road, was previously owned by Forbes/Frankel Troy Ventures LLC and is expected to be presented for approval at the University of Michigan Board of Regents meeting.

The move is part of U-M Health’s effort to establish a broad network of care across the state, allowing more Michigan residents to access their services close to home. President of U-M Health, David Miller, believes that the facility will be a hub for advanced clinical programs like multi-disciplinary cancer care.

The headquarters, which has been empty for over 15 years, was set for demolition last fall. However, U-M Health saw an opportunity to purchase the land and use it for their own purposes. The new investment will allow them to provide easier access to their world-class care for metro Detroit residents.

The 7.8-acre property will focus on advanced specialty and diagnostic services, aimed at expanding clinical services and patient access in Oakland County. Michigan Medicine CEO Marschall Runge sees this as a way to establish a presence in southeast Michigan and bring innovative clinical programs to a new community of patients.

The new facility in Troy is seen as a strategic location to expand U-M Health’s reach and bring their expertise closer to where it’s needed most. With this new investment, they hope to make their world-class care more accessible and convenient for patients in southeastern Michigan.
