Activision Blizzard is investigating a malicious campaign aimed at players who have downloaded third-party applications, such as cheating systems, to gain access to their account credentials and digital wallets. The company is working to determine how cybercriminals are introducing malware onto victims’ PCs and taking steps to identify and address any affected accounts.
The company reports that there is not enough data on how the malicious payload is spreading, but it could be targeting individuals who have third-party tools installed. Activision Blizzard assures that its servers remain secure and have not been compromised despite the ongoing investigation into the cyber attack.
A software developer known as Zeebler discovered the campaign, who creates fraudulent systems for the Call of Duty game. This developer shared information that hackers are attempting to steal usernames and credentials from players to access their digital wallets.
The malware campaign is designed to appear as legitimate software but is installed without users’ knowledge or consent, stealing their usernames and passwords. Activision Blizzard has recommended that players who suspect their accounts may be compromised change their passwords and enable two-factor authentication to enhance security.
While the investigation is ongoing, the company has not provided further updates on its progress. In the meantime, players are advised to take precautions to protect their accounts from potential cyber threats.
