Over the weekend, an unlikely event took place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The 2024 Professional Bull Riding World Finals showcased both bull riding and chess, two sports that may seem vastly different. Amongst the action, two cowboys were featured playing chess on the big screens.
In a promo clip for PBR’s upcoming partnership with Chess.com, Brady Fielder of Australia faced off against his American counterpart Callum Miller. Both cowboys are avid fans of chess and have played the game before. In this particular match, Fielder emerged as the victor.
Despite his success in chess, Fielder also had success in the bull riding competition on Sunday. He finished in third place with a prize of $178,600 while Miller ended the season in 42nd place overall, earning $21,500.
The 2024 PBR World Champion and Rookie of the Year was Cassio Dias of Brazil who became only the second rider in history to achieve both honors in the same season. The event was a showcase of talent and skill in both bull riding and chess, leaving fans entertained and impressed by this unexpected combination.
Overall, it is clear that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to these two sports. While they may seem worlds apart at first glance, there is a surprising connection between them that has been showcased through this unique event at AT&T Stadium.
