Unifying for Progress: 74-Year-Old Diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia’s Vision for Venezuela’s Recovery

In a video posted on YouTube, Edmundo González Urrutia made his first public statement as the opposition candidate for the upcoming presidential elections in Venezuela. The 74-year-old diplomat emphasized the challenges facing the country and outlined his vision for overcoming them.

Urrutia highlighted the need for Venezuela to focus on its recovery amidst increasing poverty, inflation, and devaluation of the currency. He promised a Venezuela where individuals are free to express their ideas without fear of persecution. He also pledged to work towards a transition that guarantees freedom for political prisoners, the return of exiles, and the independence of public authorities.

Drawing on his experience in diplomacy, Urrutia expressed his understanding of Venezuela’s role in a turbulent world filled with conflict. He acknowledged that his candidacy was unexpected but expressed his gratitude for the support of key figures like María Corina Machado and Manuel Rosales, who both played a role in making his candidacy possible.

Despite facing obstacles such as disqualifications and bans from the Maduro regime, Urrutia remains committed to his vision for a democratic and prosperous Venezuela. He emphasized the importance of unity within the opposition and his determination to lead the country towards a brighter future.
