El Paso starts National Public Health Week with a BARK!

The City of El Paso’s Department of Public Health (DPH) is celebrating National Public Health Week from April 1-7 with a weeklong celebration aimed at educating the community, recognizing the contributions of public health, and highlighting important issues for improving public health nationwide. This year’s theme, “Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health,” emphasizes the importance of individual contributions to community and planetary health.

Throughout the week, DPH is hosting various events in El Paso to engage the community in activities that promote biodiversity, climate change resilience, use of innovative tools in public health, and preparedness for emergencies. On Tuesday, they organized walks across the city to promote healthy neighborhoods. They held a Doggie Walk at Joey Barraza and Vino Memorial Park and a Glow Walk at Vista del Valle Park, with activities and raffles.

On Wednesday, DPH is hosting a Franklin Mountains Trail Clean up to promote cleanliness and environmental conservation in El Paso’s natural areas. On Thursday, they are holding educational topics for senior citizens at the Fabens Senior Center to focus on their specific needs for maintaining good health as they age. On Friday, DPH will be giving a Sexual Reproductive Health presentation at the Pride Center to provide information on reproductive rights and healthcare options for all individuals in El Paso. Finally, on Saturday, DPH is hosting an Emergency Preparedness Carnival at Armijo Library to help individuals prepare for potential disasters in our area.

These events aim to educate the community about various aspects of public health and how individuals can contribute to improving it. For more information on these events or to get involved with DPH’s National Public Health Week celebration in El Paso
