Unwanted Houseguests: Exploring the Spread of Endogenous Retroviruses in Eukaryotic Cells

Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread

Fort Hays State University’s Science Café is set to take place on Monday, April 29th, featuring a presentation on “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread.” This event is sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute and will be held at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub & Grill.

Dr. Eric Gillock, a professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will lead the discussion on these genetic parasites that are found in the genomes of most eukaryotic cells. Similar to unwanted houseguests, these retroviruses make themselves at home without invitation and are difficult to remove.

Science Café presentations are open to the public and free of charge. For more information or inquiries, please contact Cari Rohleder at [email protected] or 785-628-4743. Additional details can be found on the FHSU Science and Mathematics Education Institute website, the FHSU Science Café webpage, and the FHSU Science Café Facebook page.
