US Announces New Military Package for Ukraine, TikTok Faces Potential Ban as US and China Clash in Tech Sector.

US President Joe Biden announced a new military package for Ukraine on Wednesday, immediately after signing the corresponding law. The package includes anti-aircraft equipment, artillery, missile systems, and armored vehicles, which will be sent to Ukraine in the coming days. Biden emphasized that this move is not only an investment in Ukraine’s security but also in the security of Europe, warning that Russia could potentially target a NATO partner next.

The US Congress recently approved a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. This package was blocked for months but was finally released after Iran’s attack on Israel. The aid package includes increased funding for weapons and ammunition for the US military’s inventory, which will indirectly benefit Ukraine as the US usually provides equipment from its own stocks to countries under attack.

In addition to military support and financial assistance, the aid package also includes provisions for long-range ATACMS missile systems. Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky discussed the delivery of new long-range ATACMS missiles during their recent meeting. However, details about the specific models were not provided.

Meanwhile, TikTok owner Bytedance faced new legislation in the US on Wednesday with the threat of a potential ban on the popular video platform if the company does not separate from it within a year. The law against Bytedance was passed by the Senate with a large majority citing concerns about Chinese influence and access to American user data. Bytedance has denied these allegations and plans to challenge the law in court. The controversy surrounding TikTok’s ownership and potential security risks highlights ongoing tensions between the US and China in the tech industry.
