In July 2024, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) is set to break the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in 24 hours. This historic event will coincide with FIDE’s centennial celebration as well as International Chess Day. From beginners to grandmasters, anyone can join in the celebration from anywhere in the world, either online or offline.
To participate in this record-breaking event, individuals must play at least one 5-minute chess game on platforms such as chess.com or lichess.com within the allotted time frame of 24 hours. For those who prefer offline participation, they can find a nearby event listed on the FIDE website and take part in the Guinness World Record attempt.
Event organizers interested in hosting their own tournament can visit the FIDE website for eligibility criteria and details on how to register. Registration will be open until July 15, 2024, and results confirming the number of games played must be submitted after the attempt.
Registration for tournaments participating in the Guinness World Record attempt will begin in May. To stay updated and receive more information about this exciting event, visit the official FIDE Guinness World Record attempt page.
