On Monday morning, aeronautical unions are set to hold “information assemblies” at both the metropolitan Aeroparque and Ezeiza. This is expected to disrupt flights scheduled between 8 and 11 in the morning. Despite this, Aerolíneas Argentinas’ flight schedules are running smoothly to avoid cancellations. The unions are protesting for the approval of the Bases Law project, which includes reducing the non-taxable minimum, potentially causing a return to paying Income Tax for many aeronautical employees.
The unions have been opposing the Milei government’s policies since before taking office, particularly regarding the privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas. The DNU 70 decision included privatization of the airline and the repeal of subsidies that the State provided. The Airline Pilots Association (APLA), Association of Aeronautical Technicians (APTA), Senior Staff Union (UPSA), and Aeronautical Personnel Association (APA) are among the unions involved in the protest.
The protests on Monday are expected to be just one of two in the same week, with a general strike planned for Thursday. While low-cost airlines like Flybondi do not anticipate cancellations, JetSmart may experience affected flights due to ramp services provided by Intercargo. The protests will continue beyond this week as additional actions are planned in front of the National Congress. Foreign airlines landing in Ezeiza have not yet announced any disruptions due to the protests. The unions are calling for ongoing action to push back against government policies and defend the rights of aeronautical employees.
