The University of Alabama has recently secured a major boost to their roster for the upcoming 2024-25 season with the addition of standout big man Clifford Omoruyi from Rutgers through the transfer portal. Ranked as the No. 13 player in CBS Sports’ Transfer Rankings, Omoruyi is renowned for his shot-blocking abilities, having recorded an impressive 93 blocks before the NCAA Tournament throughout his four seasons at Rutgers. During this time, he started in 104 games and averaged 10.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 26 minutes per game.
This marks the fourth transfer that Alabama’s head coach Nate Oats and his staff have made this offseason, with Omoruyi joining Aden Holloway from Auburn, Chris Youngblood from USF, and Houston Mallette from Pepperdine. With six players departing from their Final Four roster from the previous season, including Mohamed Wague, Nick Pringle, and Sam Walters, the Crimson Tide will have to adjust to these changes before they can fully utilize Omoruyi’s skills on the court.
In addition to these transfers, Alabama also boasts an impressive recruiting class for the upcoming season, featuring top talents like five-star center Derrion Reid, four-star forward Aiden Sherrell, four-star guard Labaron Philon, and four-star forward Naas Cunningham. This influx of new talent sets up Alabama for a strong campaign as they aim to build on their recent success and continue their dominance in college basketball.
