In the first quarter of 2024, Amazon reported record-breaking delivery speeds for its Prime members. The company delivered more than 2 billion items the same or next day, exceeding Wall Street expectations. In major cities like London, Tokyo, and Toronto, three out of four items ordered were delivered within the same window.
Amazon’s strong growth in online sales during the first quarter of the year was praised by Blake Droesch, a senior analyst at Emarketer. He noted that Amazon’s commitment to free and fast delivery through Amazon Prime is a key factor in attracting customers to the site, particularly for household items and consumer packaged goods.
In addition to improving delivery times, Amazon is also ramping up its grocery offerings by providing free delivery on grocery orders over $35 from stores like Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh. This move is part of the ongoing grocery war among retail giants.
The success of Amazon’s Prime membership program has been a driving force behind its growth in online sales. With discounted rates available for students, many consumers are attracted to the service’s convenience and speedy delivery times.
