Spain hits record high of over 21 million Social Security affiliates

April witnessed a surge in job creation, with 200,000 new jobs being created. The hospitality sector was the largest contributor to this growth, with almost half of the new jobs coming from this sector. This led to the number of average Social Security affiliates surpassing 21 million for the first time since records began in 2001. Additionally, 60,500 people were able to leave the ranks of the unemployed, resulting in a total of 2,666,500 unemployed individuals – the lowest figure in 16 years.

The rise in job creation is significant as it marks a milestone that has not been achieved since the original series calculated by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration began. Geographically speaking, regions such as Catalonia and Andalusia saw some of the most job creation, with over two thirds of new jobs coming from these areas. Comparing results to a year ago shows an even more impressive growth in job creation, with almost half a million more workers than in previous years.

Unemployment also saw a decline during this period, particularly benefiting women. The number of unemployment benefits reached its lowest level in over a decade. Despite Easter falling in March instead of April
