Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces Armenia’s agreement to return 4 occupied villages.

The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan has announced that Armenia has agreed to return the four occupied villages of Azerbaijan following the 8th session of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions. Aykhan Hajizadeh, the spokesperson of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, confirmed that Armenia has agreed to return the villages that have been occupied since the 1990s.

However, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the four villages claimed by Azerbaijan are not de jure in the territory of Armenia according to the Alma-Ata declaration. The Prime Minister’s staff announced that Azerbaijan will receive two and a half villages as part of the agreement, as the entire territory of the village of Kizl Hajli and a significant part of the territory of the village of Ashagh Askipara were still under Azerbaijan’s control.
