Breaking barriers: Mercer Health 5K Challenge series offers free entry for kids and unique themed races for all ages

For the past two decades, Mercer County has hosted the Mercer Health 5K Challenge series, which offers individuals of all ages the opportunity to push themselves physically and form lasting friendships. In the upcoming 2024 events, participants aged 14 and under will have free entry for all seven MH5K races. While the entry fee covers the races, individual 5K shirts can be purchased separately. Bundle registration is also available, allowing participants to sign up for all seven events at a discounted price of $90, essentially entering all races for the cost of six.

This year’s challenge series features unique themes for each race to add an extra element of fun. The themes for each race include Zuma Days – Hawaiian/Luau, Country Fest – Pool Party, Redskin Classic – Patriotic, Shanes Crossing – Christmas in July, St. Clair – Neon Florescent, Lake Festival – Super Heroes, and Buzzard’s Glory – The Olympics. Online registration is currently open for all these events. Participants can receive text notifications of their finish times and ensure accurate data entry through online registration. Alternatively, registration can also be done in person on the day of the race. By completing at least five of the seven challenge events, participants will earn a Mercer Health 5K Challenge running tech shirt and be eligible for age group awards at the end of the series.

The Mercer Health 5K Challenge series is open to runners and walkers of all levels – whether experienced athletes or individuals seeking motivation to be more active. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the “Kids 14 and under running for free” offer and get their children involved in the series. To take advantage of the discounted rate, preregister for all seven events by June 15th. More information about entry forms and results for all races can be found at www.mercerhealth5kchallenge.com
