Agnes Ngetich, a 23-year-old Kenyan runner, came close to breaking the women’s world record for 10km at the adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Ngetich finished with a time of 30:03, just two seconds away from the record set by Agnes Tirop at the same event in 2021. The race was held on Saturday and saw several world records broken.
In addition to the women’s 10km race, there were also several other events that took place at the event. In the men’s mile race, Emmanuel Wanyonyi broke the world road mile record with a time of 3:54.5*. Wanyonyi, who is only 19 years old, surpassed the previous world record of 3:56.13 set by Hobbs Kessler at the World Athletics Road Running Championships Riga 23 in October. Despite celebrating before crossing the finish line, Wanyonyi was able to secure the new record. Kessler finished second with a time of 3:56.1, while South Africa’s Ryan Mphahlele came third with a time of 3:56.4.
In addition to the men’s mile and women’s 10km races, there was also a rare road 800m event won by Canada’s Marco Arop. Arop defeated Wanyonyi at last year’s world championships in Budapest and finished with a time of 1:45 in this race. Meanwhile, Medina Eisa set a new world U20 record for women in the women’s 5km with a time of
