Building a Brighter Future for Older Americans: Age-Friendly Fairbanks Summit Aims to Create a More Inclusive Community

As we age, navigating the challenges that come with it can be difficult. In honor of Older Americans Month, Foundation Health Partners and the Fairbanks North Star Borough are hosting a summit on the theme ‘Age-Friendly Fairbanks.’ The goal of this event is to improve being age-friendly by examining the built environment and social environment, including housing, transportation, access to healthcare, and recreation.

The summit kicks off with a luncheon on Thursday and continues with a full day of activities and demonstrations at the Carlson Center on Friday. The focus will be on healthy and active living for the over-50 community, with various speakers leading workshops on topics such as arthritis and dementia care. The level of volunteerism in organizing this event showcases Fairbanks’ commitment to caring for its aging population.

As Community Partnership Manager for Foundation Health Partners, Carol Anthony emphasized the importance of creating an age-friendly community. She highlighted how this event underscores the community’s dedication to supporting older adults.
