Jasmine Wong of Iolani School in Hawaii has made history by winning the individual championship at the David S. Ishii/HHSAA girls golf championships. She beat out Jessica Lee from Punahou by a single stroke to become the first player from her school to win the title. Wong shot an even par 72 on the final day of competition, finishing with a 74-72-146 overall score.
Wong, who is a senior and headed to Gonzaga in the fall, faced tough competition from five other players who also shot par or better on the final day. Despite trailing by two shots going into the 18th hole, Wong held on to win after making a bogey on the par-3 final hole. Nicole Ikeda of Punahou had the best score of the tournament with a 2-under 70, but no player finished in the red on Day 1.
Punahou went on to win their 13th girls team title with a combined score of 13-over 445 over the two days. They improved by 21 strokes from Day 1 to Day 2 to secure a 20-stroke victory over runner-up Mililani. The team was the only one to shoot below par on either day, finishing at 4-under on Day
