Campari, a multinational spirits company established in 1860, has recently acquired French cognac brand Courvoisier for 1.08 billion euros, marking the largest transaction in its history. The acquisition was finalized in February after negotiations began with Beam Suntory, the previous owner, in December 2023.
Campari has been expanding through strategic acquisitions since 1995 and currently has a presence in over 190 countries and a diverse portfolio of around fifty brands, including Aperol, Grand Marnier, and Picon. This acquisition adds another high-end brand to their collection and further strengthens their position in the global spirits market.
In addition to the initial purchase price, there is also a provision for an additional payment of 112 million euros in 2029 contingent upon meeting specific sales targets. This shows that Campari is confident in the potential of the Courvoisier brand and believes it can continue to grow and succeed under their ownership.
