DARS Urges Government Employees to Work from Home During May: Slovenian State Highway Management Company Alerts Ministry of Public Administration to Ease Traffic Congestion on Key Days

The Slovenian state highway management company, DARS, made a public appeal to the Slovenian Ministry of Public Administration on Friday, urging government employees to work from home as much as possible during May. This was in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion on the roads during the most critical days when traffic is expected to be at its highest.

DARS had never made such an appeal before and warned the Ministry that during the May Day holidays, traffic jams were expected to occur on Slovenian roads due to both tourists and daily commuters adding to the congestion. The specific aim of this appeal was to reduce traffic in Ljubljana, which experiences the highest volume of traffic. DARS believed that if government employees worked from home, it would help improve traffic flow in the city.

The Ministry received information from DARS about specific dates when road conditions were expected to be particularly bad. However, according to unofficial reports, the Ministry did not plan to comply with DARS’ appeal, stating that such a decision should be made by the Government. Additionally, there were warnings from the Koper Police Department about increased traffic during the May Day holidays both towards tourist centers and back into interior regions of Slovenia.
