Erik Karlsson and Marcus Pettersson selected for Team Sweden in IIHF World Championship

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association has announced that defensemen Erik Karlsson and Marcus Pettersson will represent Team Sweden at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. The championship will be held in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia from May 10-26.

Karlsson, a 33-year-old veteran of the sport, has previously represented Sweden at the 2010 and 2012 World Championships, where they won bronze in 2010. After being traded from the San Jose Sharks in August 2023, Karlsson joined the Penguins this season and has been a standout player on the team. He leads all Penguins defensemen in goals, assists, and points with an impressive career record of 817 points (189G-628A) in just 1002 career NHL games.

Pettersson, a promising young player at just 27 years old, had a breakout season this year by setting career highs in various offensive categories.
