Good morning, everyone. Today, I am Jeff Suess, your local history guide. Cincinnati’s murals are a vibrant part of the city’s heritage and culture. These colorful works of art not only add beauty to our buildings but also tell stories about our past. From canal boats to Kenner toys, they remind us of our rich history and invite us to learn more.
One of my favorite murals is the giant one across from the Duke Energy Convention Center. It showcases portraits of 10 of Cincinnati’s most influential musicians, including James Brown, Doris Day, and the Isley Brothers. Although I have spent years studying the city’s history, some names on the mural were unfamiliar to me. I had to do some research to identify them, but it was worth it. If you’re interested in learning more about these musical greats, you can read all about them here.
