Prime Video in Africa Acquires Rights to ‘The World’s Strangest Jobs’

The eight-part comedy docuseries “The World’s Strangest Jobs” is produced by Mannequin Pictures, a leading production, finance, and distribution company in South Africa. The series has been sold to Prime Video for the rights to the African continent. Mannequin is now looking to sell the series in other territories.

Hosted by comedian and actor Schalk Bezuidenhout, a popular South African comic known for his acting work and stand-up comedy specials, the show explores unconventional careers from around the world. From pet detectives in New York to rental boyfriends in Tokyo, Bezuidenhout travels the globe to discover these unique jobs.

Mannequin CEO Delon Bakker expressed excitement about the show being picked up by Prime Video, offering audiences a fresh perspective on these unconventional careers. The growing presence of streaming platforms in the region comes as no surprise, with a report from Ampere Analysis predicting significant growth in the subscription video on demand (SVOD) market in sub-Saharan Africa. The competitive landscape includes local platforms like Showmax, which compete with global streaming services.

Recently completed production on “London Calling,” directed by Allan Unger and starring Josh Duhamel and Rick Hoffman, has been handled by Highland Film Group for international sales.
