In March, significant job gains were seen in various industries, with the largest increases occurring in health care, leisure and hospitality, construction, retail trade, other services, and social assistance. However, some major industries such as mining, manufacturing, transportation, and financial activities showed little to no change in employment numbers during the month.
On the other hand, among different worker groups, the unemployment rate for Black Americans rose to 6.4% in March while rates for Hispanics and Asian Americans decreased. The jobless rates for teenagers, adult women, White Americans, and adult men remained relatively stable over the month. Additionally, the number of long-term unemployed workers remained mostly unchanged in March at almost 20% of the total unemployed population.
