Two Montana-based breweries, Lewis and Clark Brewing Co. and Copper Furrow Brewing, received accolades at the prestigious 2024 World Beer Cup. Lewis and Clark captured a gold medal in the American Wheat Beer category for their Miner’s Gold Hefeweizen. This beer is a tribute to the miners in Montana who searched tirelessly for gold in the region, using malted wheat and Montana-grown barley in its creation.
In contrast, Copper Furrow secured a bronze medal in the International Dark Lager beer style category for their Tmavé Pivo. This Czech dark lager features flavors of bread crust, caramel, and a hint of coffee roast in the finish. The brewing process involved heritage Vienna and black malt, as well as intensive brewing with Cz Saaz hops, Budvar yeast, and natural carbonation.
The World Beer Cup is known as the “Olympics of Beer,” acknowledging brewing excellence from around the world. This year’s winners were determined by a panel of 280 beer judges from 37 countries who evaluated a total of 9,300 entries from 2,060 breweries and 50 countries. The award ceremony took place on April 24 at The Venetian in Las Vegas where winners in 110 beer-style categories were honored. The competition was created by the Brewers Association in 1996 to celebrate the art and science of brewing. To learn more about the World Beer Cup, visit their website.
