Global and Local Jane’s Walks in Ellsworth and Beyond

For the third year in a row, Ellsworth, Maine will be taking part in Jane’s Walk, an international event that brings together over 500 cities worldwide to walk and explore their communities. The event was founded in Toronto in 2006 in honor of writer and activist Jane Jacobs, who was dedicated to building up communities. The goal of Jane’s Walk is to encourage people to engage with their neighborhoods and develop a sense of pride for where they live and work.

In Ellsworth, there are two walks scheduled for Saturday. The first walk, focusing on nature, will start at 10:00 a.m. at the River Walk North trail head behind the Ellsworth Public Library. The second walk, centered around historical Ellsworth, will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Old Burial Grounds on State Street. These walks are being organized by Heart of Ellsworth in partnership with GrowSmart Maine and the Ellsworth Historical Society.

Participants are encouraged to register for the walks on the Heart of Ellsworth website to find more information and get involved in the community event. By bringing people together to explore and learn about their surroundings, a sense of community pride and connection will be fostered. By engaging with neighbors and the local environment, participants can develop a deeper appreciation for the place they call home.
