Valtteri Puustinen and Jesse Puljujarvi have been selected to represent Team Finland at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, which is set to take place from May 10-26 in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia.
Puustinen, a 24-year-old forward who hails from Kuopio, Finland, has had an impressive season with Pittsburgh. He played in 52 games for the Penguins this year, scoring 20 points (5G-15A). In addition, he led Penguins rookies in goals, assists, and points. Puustinen also saw action with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, where he recorded 13 points and was the top scorer on the team in two playoff games.
On the other hand, Puljujarvi is a 25-year-old forward who grew up in Alvkarleby, Sweden but was raised in Finland. He joined Pittsburgh on a professional tryout in December 2023 and later signed a two-year contract with the team on February 4th. In his first season with Pittsburgh, he played 22 games and scored four points. Prior to joining Pittsburgh, Puljujarvi tallied nine points in just thirteen games with the WBS Penguins.
The schedule for Team Finland’s preliminary round at the upcoming tournament has been released but broadcast information is yet to be announced at a later date.
