WP Theater Presents Off-Broadway Premiere of The World According to Micki Grant

New York City’s WP Theater is set to host the world premiere of The World According to Micki Grant, a biomusical that explores the life and work of multihyphenate artist Micki Grant. This talented songwriter, poet, lyricist, and writer made history as the first Black woman to solo write the book, music, and lyrics for a Broadway musical with Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope.

The show is compiled, adapted, and directed by Nora Cole and will feature a talented cast including Matelyn Alicia, April Armstrong, Patrice Benn, and Shawn Bowers. Alicia and Armstrong will portray different aspects of Micki Grant’s life and work while Bowers’ character embodies the male figures from her works.

Commissioned by New Federal Theatre after Grant’s passing in 2021, this biomusical includes pieces from her musicals, poetry, and prose as well as rare and unpublished works. The creative team behind the production includes music director Tom Spahn, choreographer Lakai Worrell and various designers contributing to the visual and technical aspects of the show.

Tickets for The World According to Micki Grant are now available for purchase through WP Theater’s website. This biomusical promises to be an exciting exploration of an incredible artist who left an indelible mark on American culture.
