Exploring Math and Science Across the Globe Night

On April 26, 2024, Klager Elementary School hosted an event called Around the World with Math and Science Night. The event was organized by a dedicated team of Klager and high school volunteers who provided families with an opportunity to engage in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning activities in the Klager cafeteria.

Children had the chance to explore various topics related to science, technology, engineering, art, and math from different countries around the world. They learned about growing food in the Arctic, the origin of popcorn in Peru, and how sorbet was invented in China. Technology was also a focus, with demonstrations from the Klager K-12 robotics teams. Engineering skills were put to the test with K’Nex sets, which were invented in the United States. An art show preview offered families a creative experience, and children were able to create notebooks, which originated in Australia. Math skills were challenged with a game of Mancala, created in Africa.

Special presentations were made by Title 1 to promote reading around Michigan with books by local authors, as well as information on Michigan-based products. MI Future Funds was also present to provide guidance on college planning and saving. The evening ended with children voting for their favorite station, with the Robotics Teams winning the title.

Families of all ages enjoyed the interactive and engaging event, and it was a great opportunity for children to learn and explore different aspects of STEAM education.
