BMX racing’s greatest athletes are coming together at Rock Hill for the World Championships. The race is known as the toughest of the year, and after months of preparation, the riders are ready to show off their skills.
In the women’s field, Australia’s Sakakibara is expected to dominate. She has won four World Cup races and finished second in two others this season, defending her 2023 Overall World Cup title in Tulsa. Great Britain’s Shriever, who won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and defended her UCI World Championships title last year, is another athlete to watch.
The men’s field will feature some strong French riders. UCI points leader Romain Mahieu will be looking to defend his 2023 World Championship title, having practiced on the Rock Hill track. Joris Daudet, currently in second place in points, has recovered from a collarbone injury and is ready to compete. Colombia also has a strong presence with riders like Diego Arboleda and two-time Olympic bronze medallist Carlos Ramirez.
Niek Kimmann from the Netherlands will be looking to continue his momentum after winning gold at Tulsa and finishing first in two other races this season. Australian rider Izaac Kennedy will also be a threat on the track after securing two consecutive silvers chasing Kimmann. With such a talented field of riders set to compete, the World Championships at Rock Hill promise to be an exciting event for BMX fans worldwide.
