San Antonio is buzzing with excitement as Fiesta is back in full swing, offering a range of delicious food and drinks. However, it’s essential to be cautious about what you consume to ensure your safety. A KSAT crew recently joined San Antonio Metropolitan Health District inspectors to observe how they are maintaining food safety during the festivities.
According to Deborah Liu, an environmental health officer from Metro Health, consuming unsafe food can have serious consequences. Sometimes, food may not be cooked correctly, leading to foodborne illnesses that may not manifest until the next day. This is why inspectors closely monitor vendors at every Fiesta event to ensure that they are following proper sanitation practices and using appropriate protective gear like gloves or hairnets.
During their inspection process, inspectors check various aspects of food safety, including temperature control and proper sanitation practices. If a vendor fails to comply with food safety regulations, they are given the opportunity to correct the issue before losing their permit and being shut down permanently.
If anyone attending Fiesta notices any suspicious activity regarding food safety, they are urged to report it immediately by calling 311. By prioritizing hygiene and being vigilant during the festivities, everyone can enjoy themselves without putting their health at risk.
