Man self-immolates in front of courtroom during Trump trial

On Friday, a man attempted to set himself on fire in front of the New York court where former President Donald Trump is being tried. The man became engulfed in flames before police arrived, but a fire extinguisher was used to contain the blaze.

Just minutes before the incident, authorities had selected the jury for the criminal trial against Trump for illegal financing. Several videos circulating on social media show the man on fire and people rushing to put out the flames.

Emergency services quickly arrived and transported the injured man on a stretcher. The jury, consisting of 12 people and six substitutes, had been chosen just beforehand. The start of the first criminal trial of a former president of the United States is rapidly approaching.

The fire took place in a park across from the courthouse, which has been a gathering place for protesters and media covering the jury selection process for the Trump trial.
